David Cornelius Vandervelde was born to Jake & Hazel Vandervelde in 1974 in Belleville, ON. He is younger brother to Michael, and older brother to Jonathon. As a young boy, David was a talkative and inquisitive child with a keen interest in the art of Lego. In high school, David met a girl named Heather who would later become his wife. At this time, he also got involved in a local youth group which God used to significantly contribute to his spiritual formation. Casting aside his childhood ambition to become an astronaut, David followed God's call and enrolled at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, SK-with intentions of one day becoming a Professor of Theology. Four years and a wedding later, David graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a wife. David moved with Heather to Vancouver where he attended Regent College and continued toward the goal of teaching theology in the University. During this time, God led David and Heather to worship at Hope Reformed Church in Vancouver. David served as a student intern at Hope and it was during this time, that David felt God calling him to serve as pastor rather than professor. After a change in courses and an additional year of study, David graduated from Regent College in March 2000 with a Master of Divinity. David was immediately installed and ordained at Bethel Reformed Church in Abbotsford, BC. David served Bethel for almost 12 years. During this time, God added two beautiful girls to the family-Hannah in February 2001 and Rebekah in April 2003. Over the years, God has grown in David a passion for pastoring his people. It is with clear conviction that David, along with Heather, feel called to serve Ebenezer Reformed Church. They look forward to being a part of the life of Ebenezer and sharing in its ministry. Pastor David enjoys NASCAR, family walks and Starbucks.
